Sixth Grade IL: Day Two at PBC

After a full restful night’s sleep in the cabin, the students woke up ready to have some fun. We had a delicious breakfast and then set off for our group hikes led by our PBC leaders. Groups learned about the local wildlife, trees, and played games like camouflage in the woods. We also all crossed the river using a long fallen log or the three-line suspension bridge.

The next activity was some free time, but was interrupted by an unexpected snow squall. This didn’t deter our students, but instead invigorated and excited them to catch and eat the snowflakes! We had a bunch of fun running around in the snow!

We had some traditional sloppy joes for lunch and then went out to get fitted for harnesses and helmets. The high ropes course was next and the students did an amazing job! I’m happy to report that every student in the Sixth Grade got up on the ropes course, many of them using their new mantra, “I can do challenging things” inspired by the PBC crew! They were climbing, crawling, and sometimes leaping 40 feet in the air with bravery and enthusiasm. But, the most impressive part was the support and encouragement their peers provided to each person on the course.

After we came back for a little free play, we had some dinner, and then we went back to the cabins and got bundled up for the campfire and s’mores. We had a wonderful time around the fire, roasting marshmallows (some just totally burnt to a crisp), listening to Ms. Alicia give an impromptu astronomy lesson with her crazy green laser, and hearing our traditional reading of Goodnight Moon in English, Spanish, French, and Chinese!

An incredible day at PBC!
