Today Cabinets of Curiosities went to the Natural History Museum. First, we took an in-depth look at the front of the museum and its intentions of displaying masculinity, imperialism and man’s place in society. Then we ate lunch at Uno’s Chicago Deep Dish Pizza … in New York. After that, we split into teams and had free time in the museum to do a scavenger hunt, where we found these shrunken heads, as well as explore the museum. Overall, it was a very fun and educational experience. Team Mickey Rooney
Today, we got to explore and learn about the history of many regions while also having fun. First we started the day off by a 2 and a half hour bus ride to New York. When we got to the museum, we studied the entrance and learned about its significance. We then ate lunch at Uno’s and it was delicious. After lunch, we made our way back to the museum and split into our groups for a scavenger hunt. With our group, we explored for specific things and it was a fun time. Not only were we learning but it also gave our group time to bond. At 2:45 we made our way back to the entrance and then onto the bus. Team Gus
Team DumbDumb (a reference to the movie A Night at the Museum) had a pretty successful scavenger hunt. We finished in enough time that allowed us to view the life size Blue Whale that the museum had hanging in their marine life section. We learned that Blue Whale was the largest animal that ever lived. After that, we walked around the part of the museum that was dedicated to Teddy Roosevelt (and even got selfies with him)! The dinosaurs in the museum were also interesting to us.
We were surprised at how lifelike the animals looked. Even though they were just skins that were stuffed (taxidermy), it looked like they could have come alive at any second. Although we didn’t get to sleep over, we still had a great DAY at the museum. Team Dumb Dumb
Today we went to New York bright and early. We stopped at a rest stop for ten minutes then proceeded on our journey. On the way there we noticed graffiti by a person known as “PK Kid.” They are known to be extreme graffiti artist(s) in the New Jersey Area. We then went through the Lincoln Tunnel and after many minutes stuck in traffic, we finally made our way into the Big Apple. When we got to the museum we got our tickets and then examined the exterior. We then ate delicious pizza at UNO’s. After lunch, we were given a scavenger hunt to do in the museum. We were given an hour and a half to find certain things throughout the African, Asian, and American exhibits. Our group quickly found the items (ex: something religious or clothing) and made our way to the gift shop where we purchased many items! We roamed around the museum and found that it was time to leave. We were saddened that we had to go but also grateful that we had this experience. Team Ben Stiller
