Saturday, March 23
Today, we began the day with a refreshing meal of Cuban coffee, fruits, and bread. We then proceeded to hop on our trusty van and drive 60 kilometers through the scenic Cuban countryside to Puerto Padre. We then split into two groups to get work done.
Mrs. Washington, Miles, Jalen, Justin, and Josh built some scaffolding and proceeded to paint the 12 ft. ceilings. We also played some improvised baseball with our new friend Oscar, using a sock ball and wooden plank.
The other group went to another Quaker church about 6 km. away and painted it blue. They also met a child named Mario who they quickly bonded with. Kobe said, “Mario was energetic and troublesome, yet we quickly bonded over a game of time.”
In the evening, we reunited under the freshly painted ceilings for a dinner. We returned to La Iglesia de Los Amigos covered in paint, but proud of our work.
Adíos,
Jalen and Miles
Sunday, March 24
Today, we woke up and quickly had a delicious breakfast of eggs, bread, fruit, coffee, cake, cheese, and more! Then, we returned to our rooms to get dressed up for a church service. It was a beautiful service and all the members expressed their gratitude towards our visit. We had the opportunity to split up and attend Sunday School classes which were separated by age. When church was over, we went to a local Japanese restaurant. Our meal was exceptional! Later, we headed to a gorgeous beach, Guardalavaca, where we took pictures and had fun relaxing in the blue water. We then went to another restaurant for dinner, this time serving authentic Cuban cuisine. After our meal, we drove back to our “home” for a family check in. We had a nice, laid back day, which unfolded as we went on (’cause that’s Cuba)!
Adios,
T’Shay, Chig, Michel
