Day Three, Venice
By Logan, Grace, Rachel
We started the day with breakfast in the hotel. We then bussed to a boat that took us to Murano for a glass blowing demonstration. We watched a glass worker make a vase and a little horse. This factory has been making glass in Murano since 1291! We were allowed to shop in the glass factory store. There were many vases, forms of jewelry, and sculptures, all made of glass.
We continued our day by taking a boat to Venice. Venice rests on 118 islands that are separated by 150 canals. Once we got to Venice, we met with our tour guide, collected our headsets, and made our way to Doge’s Palace for our tour. The palace had beautiful architecture, and the ceilings and walls were filled with paintings. Each painting had a picture of the Doge. We learned about how each room was used during the Venetian Republic. The Venetian Republic was the longest-standing republic in history at almost 1,100 years long. We got to tour through the prison of the palace and learned all about the justice system during the Venetian Republic.
Afterwards, we had some free time, so we went into a few stores and bought gelato. We went up the St. Mark Campanile and saw the whole city from the top. After that we met up with the group near the gondolas. We went in groups of four on gondolas through the canals and got a tour of the city. This was our final activity before heading back to the boat and heading to the hotel.
