China — Day Three
3/27/16
Today we woke up and had a wonderful breakfast at 8:30. We then got ready and prepared for our long ride to the Great Wall of China. We departed by bus at 9:00 and had a 2 hour ride to Beigoucun.
We then went to a converted Brick Yard, now a restaurant, and learned how to make noodles. We had a competition to see who could make the longest noodle.
Afterwards, we went to lunch at a delicious restaurant that serves a variety of foods including fish, beef, vegetables, rice and potatoes.
Then we boarded the bus and took a short ride to the Great Wall. Once we arrived we embarked on a 40 minute hike up a mountain to reach the base of the wall. As soon as we reached the top of the wall we took many pictures and just captured the beauty of the moment. Then we split up into small groups and started hiking up the steep steps of the Great Wall. We hiked very far, taking breaks for pictures and water. Once we reached the point to which the wall was not reconstructed, we turned around and began our journey back.
After returning to the starting point we got some ice cream. Then we took toboggans down the mountain, and videotaped our experience. At the base of the mountain we then began our first shopping experience in China. We had one hour to buy souvenirs and practice our bargaining skills. There was a wide variety of items to purchase and we all had fun fighting to get better prices.
After a long day, we went back to the Brick Yard and ate a lovely meal. The food included noodles that we were able to personalize with many different spices. Then we returned to the bus and began our long trip back to the hotel.
Overall it was a very fun day, and we got to enjoy a large part of the culture and see one of the 7 Wonders of the World. The Great Wall of China was stunning, and these moments were a once in a lifetime experience for all of us.
