Today in Arts and Entertainment, we teamed up with Mr. Howard’s Songwriting Seminar and took a tour of Gradwell House Studios in Haddon Heights. We learned about how different microphones are used for a variety of recording situations and how microphones are positioned for different instruments. We also talked about rooms with controlled sound versus open rooms. Many people were able to record themselves playing different instruments, assisted by the Gradwell recording engineers. We recorded several piano pieces, some ukulele, and a few vocal tracks!
Students from both groups collaborated on a rap track that they wrote themselves, and we got to watch the engineers layer and manipulate the sounds. We spent a lot of time in the control room, which had lots of buttons all programmed to do something different. After we finished recording, we went across the street to Ralph’s Pizza and ate lunch. Overall, today’s trip was very enjoyable, and we can’t wait for tomorrow!
