Today’s trip to the Brandywine River Art Museum was a gallery adventure! We visited the many works of N.C. Wyeth, along with his family’s works, and a 100-year exhibition on Wayne Thiebaud. The Wyeths are a family of renowned artists based in Chadds Ford, PA. Besides his beautiful landscapes, N.C. Wyeth was most known for his illustrative works of swash-buckling pirates, dark cowboys, and commanding knights. He was even commissioned to illustrate one of the most famous editions of Treasure Island in 1910.
Traveling in different groups, we took pictures and glanced at lovely paintings, sketches, and even a peacock statue at the main entrance. We all discovered the three floors of the museum, which all have different exhibits to explore. We noticed that different artists have different color schemes (some of the colors were bright and vibrant, while others had colors that were darker and neutral) and the variety of different landscapes, still lifes, and people shown around in the museum.
The museum is situated on a vast farm, with a variety of trails along the Brandywine River that we were able to explore. We spent the afternoon having lunch in the cafe overlooking the river and taking in the scenic views. Some of the popular works that we enjoyed were Tipping Point (Rikki Morley Saunders), Portrait of Pig (Andrew Wyeth), Raccoon (Andrew Wyeth), and Boston Cremes (Wayne Thiebaud).
