Today the Asian culture group visited the Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy in Philadelphia. We were first given a quick overview about his group and what Islam is all about. The pastor told us his story about how he crossed over from Christianity to Islam and how he thought they were similar but Islam felt more clear to him.
After that we went to their conference room, and we discussed some important ideas and misconceptions about Islamic ideas. Some of the subjects we talked about included prayers and how many times a day you are supposed to and how the Islamic community treats women. We discussed the Five Pillars of Islam and what the body is composed of. We also learned about how god uses your body as a tool to do all your daily activities like charity and cleaning.
After this we took a short tour around the school area and saw some of their classes which are Kindergarten-12th grade like MFS, but their teachers wear veils. After the tour we went back to the conference room for lunch, which was provided by them. They prepared gyros for us; they were very delicious. Overall it was a good day at the Al-Aqsa Islamic academy.
