Yesterday, we visited the University of Pennsylvania’s campus to learn about the history of Iraq and Iran and their historical relationship. We had a lecture from two graduates of the school. The first was a man who spoke about stereotypes of Middle Eastern countries vs. stereotypes about the United States. He also had us label as many Middle Eastern countries on a map as possible, and whoever got the most correct won a prize, which was an eye bead.
The second speaker was a woman who spoke about her Iranian background, and she taught us how to write the word love in Arabic. After the speakers, we ate at Hummus Grill, a small Mediterranean cafe that Mr. Brandon goes to and then Bobby’s Burger Palace for milkshakes. Lastly, we visited the University of Pennsylvania Museum. We looked at their Asian Culture exhibit, and it was really interesting.
Today, we are attending an authentic Japanese garden and are eating at an Indonesian restaurant. At the garden, we will learn origami and other aspects of Japanese culture. We’re excited for the last day, sad it’s over. Thanks to the MFS community, Ms. Chu, and Mr. T for this opportunity.
Peace,
Asian Culture
