We never thought something as seemingly simple as baking could become so dangerous and powerful within our souls. We immediately jumped into the day of baking by splitting up into our four innovative teams.

The teams you may ask? Team PB&J, Team DMM, Exploding Bakers, and Banana Bread Bakery.

Today was the day of the showstopper, the one to end it all.

The kitchen was grueling and bustling with activity. As we whisked the ingredients, we felt as if the ingredients were whisking our minds. Our thoughts became the ovens of a perfect recipe, and our hearts became the whisks.

Team Exploding Bakers, with Ariel, Trent, and Stefan created a masterful chocolate strawberry cake that truly teased the taste buds of those who sampled it. The strawberries were meticulously nested between each layer of chocolate cake.

Our next contestant, Team PB&J, was composed of Aliyah, Laila, and Ryan. They pushed their baking skills to the limit by crafting the perfect set of beignets without the safety net of a deep fryer to catch them. They truly embodied the spirit of Intensive Learning, and the soul of New Orleans.

Next, we had Banana Bread Bakery. They not only put their team spirit, but also their team name, into their dish. The masterful chefs, Fareed, Leo, and Harry created a delicious Banana Bread Chocolate Chip Muffin. Their muffin form and creative addition of powdered sugar added a delicious twist to this well-known recipe.

Last, but not certainly not least, we had Team DMM. Their name, a double acronym, represented the bakers involved and embodied the spirit of their work. Their fox design of the Pull-away Cupcake Cake embodied the soul of Moorestown Friends.

After the creation of these beautiful bakery delights, it was time to be judged by 6 faculty judges. Our judges, bringing in their expertise, professionally graded each and every one of our desserts. Culminating in a group meeting and discussion, they came to the conclusion that the victors of the Great MFS Baking show … were the Exploding Bakers.

They also highlighted the importance of bringing your experiences from baking into your academic work, and how well team PB&J’s beignet represented the spirit of Intensive Learning. Ultimately, although MFS’ Intensive Learning program has sent students adventuring in continents across the globe, none of their journeys and discoveries carried as great of a magnitude as was felt in the hearts and minds of those competing in the Great MFS Baking Show.
