Banking Service Hours at the Food Bank of SJ (Alternative Title — Feed: An MFS Service Story)

Today we went to the Food Bank of South Jersey. The Food Bank helps bring meals and other necessities to families in need and teaches them about healthy eating habits. They took us on a quick tour through the facility, and we learned about some of the other ways they help the community. For example, at a place called the demonstration kitchen, kids learn how to cook, make recipes, and have a nutritious lifestyle. One of the recipes these kids made won the award for Best Recipe for Diabetics in South Jersey.

After the tour, we helped sort food by checking the expiration dates and quality of the containers. Then we put that food in boxes to send to schools that have few resources. Each box contained 5 dairy products, 5 fruit products, 5 vegetable products, 5 soup products, and 5 protein products. When we finished packing the boxes, we ate lunch and played an exciting game of Family.

Once lunch had finished, we went back and cleaned up the sorting area and some doors at the warehouse. Then, we took a picture (check out our day’s album!) and got back on the bus.
