On day three of our Bayshore trip the boat finally arrived. When the bus pulled in and everyone saw the mast of the ship we all got excited to finally be able to work on the boat. After putting our stuff away, we were split into groups. Kelcie, Natalie, Caroline, Aparna, and Katie painted penetrol on blocks for the boat. This group did the same work yesterday, so they had knew what they were doing. Maura, Gabby, Kierra, Sierra, and Andayah went below the deck to clean the area where the crew members would be sleeping and living. This group also organized the equipment that was downstairs, and used vinegar and water to wipe down the surfaces. Ian, Andrew, Eric, and Harvey scraped paint off of a piece of wood that is used to balance the boat. We continued this work up until lunch.
After a short lunch break we went back outside to discover that it had started to snow. Despite the weather we continued our work. While on the boat, we spotted a white swan in the water and named him Gabriel. Captain Jessie then told us that some parts of the boat had to be repainted. In order to prepare the boat to be repainted, we had to scrape the paint off of the sides of the boat. It was long and tedious work, but we got the job done. Other people continued to clean out the inside of the ship. Some of our group members had scrimmages for spring sports, so we had to leave Bayshore at 1:15 pm. It was really fun working on the boat today and we are looking forward to continuing this amazing experience tomorrow!
