Bayshore: The Work Begins

Ship-Shape? Not Yet!

Today, we got into the real nitty-gritty of the work getting the A.J. Meerwald ready for her 2017 sailing season.

Scraping, Sanding and Painting..

We stepped out of the bus, and were once again “delighted” by the salty smell of rotting oysters and the Delaware bay. It was a little chilly, and there was a slight breeze off of the bay with periodic showers, but it got fairly warm later in the day. After playing a couple of ice breakers with our Bayshore friends Captain Jesse, Carmen, Kate and Pen, we all split up into groups to start working the tall ship, A.J. Meerwald.

Pen and Carmen led half of us on deck, scraping off old paint and rust, and sanding down the wood to prepare it for painting. The other half stayed on the dock with Kate, sanding and repainting wooden boxes. After three hours of hard labor, we broke for lunch, and were later headed on our way back to MFS.
