Today we visited the Maya ruins of Lamanai and learned about the history of the location and the Maya people.
We started off the day with breakfast at the hotel, and we took a bus ride to a speed boat. The speed boat was an hour long and took us to the ruins. When we arrived, our tour guide gave a brief background of the site’s history, and we started on our tour.
When we got to the first temple, we climbed to the top and learned about the Jaguar temple. There were four temples that we visited, and we also saw howler monkeys!
Throughout the tour, we not only learned about the history of the temples and Maya people, but the surrounding nature. We saw large palm trees, different types of plants, and little seeds that smelled like honey which our tour guide referred to as “nature’s Imodium.”
We had a great lunch of chicken, rice, pico de gallo, and more. The tour was about three hours and after lunch we took the speedboat back. Everyone was alseep on the bus ride home after hiking the ruins.
When we got back to the hotel, we all went in the pool until dinner time. For dinner, we had a private room and had fish filet, mashed potatoes, zucchini, and coconut cream pie for dessert. After dinner we all got back in the pool and swam for the rest of the night.
