Our third day of blacksmithing had the class split into slightly larger groups due to absences. This introduced several challenges as communication became the key to keeping the fires alight. The morning gave students the opportunity to use many of the new tools such as the hacksaw, metal file, and chisel. Working off of the momentum from yesterday, the class spent a large portion of the day expanding on the skills and techniques that they’d picked up. Some of the teams had become so competent at constructing a fire that they suffered damages of holes in the forge and melted air pipes. As the day came to a close, several of the teams had lost their fires, but had gained the experience to go into our fourth day with heat.
