Our last full day in the village, however nostalgic, consisted of a morning of hard work and service followed by an afternoon and evening of engaging activities. Upon arriving at La Escuela de Coope San Juan in the morning, we finally completed the soccer field as a group. Once the soccer goals had been painted green and blue, as was requested by the students of the school, our often difficult yet rewarding service project was complete.
Fittingly, we followed up that work with some embarrassingly difficult dance lessons. The children and teens of the village showed us how to tango, and we reciprocated – or, at least we tried to. The lessons were in anticipation of the village-wide dance that night, so the exposure to the Costa Rican music and moves beforehand was both necessary and appreciated. And, once we took a much-needed break for a swim in a river a few miles from the village, we utilized those.
