We started our day by meeting Frank the volunteer leader at Cedar Run. Frank took us into the gift shop to see the clothing items that Cedar Run offers. We then took a trip through the woods to the other side of the refuge to see all of the animals there, like various kinds of birds, turtles, eagles, and a deer.
After this, we split up into groups to help with service. My group helped with setting up speed bumps. They were a little heavy, but we got it done. After we placed them, like puzzle pieces, we hammered them into the ground. After this we had to return the cart back to our group, where we waited for our next service activities.
We then separated into groups to rake the leaves on the side of the path. We raked around three big bags of leaves. Then we threw the leaves into the back of the yard. We raked the leaves because the path was hard to walk on, and cleaning the path will help visitors walk better.
Lastly, everyone went back into the gift shop. There were toy animals, t-shirts, and wildlife books you could buy. After this, we went back to school for lunch and then a birthday party with a build-your-own ice cream sundae station.
We also celebrated Jared’s birthday by singing him Happy Birthday and enjoying cake and ice cream!
