Yesterday we arrived in Holguin, Cuba after a day full of travel. Upon our arrival, we had a delicious lunch which consisted of rice, ground meat, fruit, and beans at the church where we are staying. For the remainder of the day we relaxed, caught up on sleep, and enjoyed a dinner with students from George School who were spending their last night here yesterday. Today we began the day with breakfast and service work at the church. Many of us painted the dining area while others painted one of the bedrooms. Others helped prepare garlic and yucca for today’s lunch. After lunch, we enjoyed ice cream and an afternoon in the plaza where we were able to purchase pastelitos (small desserts), books, souvenirs, and various other things. Additionally, we had the opportunity to watch Cuban dancers and singers perform their respective arts in the plaza. To close out the night, the group was split and we all ate dinner with a host family where our Spanish was truly put to the test! After dinner we returned to the church, played a few games, and prepared for the next day full of new adventures!
