On the first day of our Pine Barrens adventure, we went to Batsto Village. We also took a four mile hike down a beautiful trail. We spotted lots of interesting plants throughout the day. Due to the weather yesterday, we walked through some muddy, yet very fun, trails. We walked through forests that had been burnt down before. The trunks were black and charred, but you can also see new pines growing because of the old ones dying.
By the end of our trip, we broke off into groups and explored the general area of the Batsto Village. We saw a dam that provides energy for the once prosperous village and there is even a water ladder for the fish to swim up because of the environmental impact of the dam made to the local fish. Our group found an entrance to a pond and started searching for cool rocks and plants. We proceeded to splash in the water and skipped rocks together until it was time to leave. We ended up back at Moorestown Friends School at a good time to relax before being dismissed.
