On Tuesday, our third day of Intensive Learning, the 8th grade traveled to Camp Mason on a two-hour bus ride. Once we arrived, we settled into the cabins before heading straight to the dining area for lunch. From there, the camp staff reminded us of the different expectations they had for us while we were staying there. The expectations we were given emphasized the importance of taking care of your peers and respecting the spaces we were provided with. When listening to these guidelines, we were reminded of the Quaker S.P.I.C.E.S. that we follow at MFS. This is because they include similar aspects of the S.P.I.C.E.S. such as stewardship, inclusivity, and integrity.

After lunch, we broke off into groups of four to participate in a variety of different activities. The numerous activities offered to us included axe throwing, survival training, baking and tie-dye, exhilarating zip lining, and an exquisite hike up to the fire tower. Over the next two and a half days at the camp, each group was able to cycle through each activity on a structured schedule. As well as having a great time with the activities, we greatly enjoyed our group meals. With various eating options and an inclusive dining hall layout, everyone had so much fun during mealtimes.

In the evenings, the 8th graders gathered into a communal lodge in the center of our cabin area to spend time with each other. We were given various different board games and other activities to engage and build bonds before bed.

Overall, Camp Mason was an extremely memorable experience for every eighth grader. This trip allowed us to learn more about our classmates as well as the importance of taking care of the environment.
