This Wednesday that we spent with the pre-school at MFS was full of emotions and learning experiences, as well as moments that helped to spark creativity in both divisions. One group spent a lot of time discussing boundaries along with working on our stop motion movies, making sure everyone felt comfortable and safe in the working environment. This helped us to build stronger connections with the younger kids and was an important part of teamwork and problem solving skills during our time spent together.
Today, our third day exploring animation with the preschool, we split up into to two groups. One would play outside on the playscape, while the other group worked together on finishing up the filming of our stop motion films. Our group inside was working really well finishing up our filming for the film. All that is left is to edit and do some voiceovers for the film.
While outside, we had fun playing and working together. The kids spent lots of time on the swings and slide, and running around. When it was time to go inside, they did a good job of putting the toys back into the shed.
Then the other class started the day by saying hello and good morning to each other and after settling in with some breathing exercises, we broke off into groups. Most of the younger kids played, and would often take a pause on their games to help out with more hands-on activities like painting, drawing, etc. There was lots of discussion and excitement about our projects during this time and collaborated well with one another, making sure everyone’s voices were heard.
After snacking and getting our coats on, we headed outside for recess where we spent lots of time on the playscape, and some upper schoolers stayed inside to continue working on the movies in aspects that may not have been as appealing or safe to the preschoolers, like using hot glue guns.
After spending lots of time hanging out with the younger kids, it was time for the preschoolers to head to their specials (PE and Library) and the Upper Schoolers got to take some time to unwind and decompress after handling the children and all of their energy, since sometimes these experiences can be a lot to handle for long extended periods of time.
After taking our break and coming back from specials, the preschoolers and upper schoolers regrouped in their classrooms and continued to work and play with one another, getting more work done on the movies and creating important bonds between peers.
Soon, we said goodbye to our mid-day friends and headed off to lunch in the dining hall with the preschoolers, which they were very excited about (as usual). Some of the tables even made some fun nicknames for each other!
After eating lunch, the upper schoolers and preschoolers parted ways for the day, and we spent the rest of the day discussing plans for tomorrow and things that went well, as well as things that were more challenging for us. Our plans for the rest of the week we have together are to finish up filming by the end of the day tomorrow, including titles, voiceovers, and overall cleaning things up. We are all so excited to see the finished products of these movies that the preschool has worked so hard on!
