Today our Exploring Art group spent our time in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. After we arrived in the Pine Barrens and had a quick tour of the lake, students began working on their individual or group projects. Regardless of the 30 degree weather, we were able to get a lot of unique art installations in place. We could also take occasional breaks to warm our hands by the fire.
One group of students worked on placing a tape cast human figure (which looked like a real person) in different positions throughout the forest. After installing it to appear like it was walking up a tree, they then hung it over the water to look like it was walking on water. Another student completed a small neighborhood of Fairy Houses. He attached fishing line to each of the bases so they could be hung in the trees, accompanied by a set of crochet flowers. Looking back on the day, it was really fun and the cold weather was clearly not much of an obstacle for us.
