Exploring Art: Sand, Wind and Art

Today we went to Ocean City, NJ to create some art in a different environment. This was our third body of water —the ocean. Once we arrived at 9th and the boardwalk, we went straight to the beach! As a group we created two mandalas in the sand drawing shapes with shells. One we did in a Simon-Says fashion, in which we went around the circle and each student gave a direction to the others to add to the mandala. After that, we used the tools we brought, and tools that nature provided us to create different forms of art on the beach. The art that was created ranged from sand castles and drawings to a kite made from bags. We were given the opportunity to walk around and explore the beach, allowing us to see what potential art can be made, and what art already exists naturally from the environment. Overall, our trip to Ocean City was a positive learning experience, and it expanded our knowledge of how to make art in the environment.
