Today, we went to Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge as a group. We were met by Lauren, an employee at the reserve, and were treated to a brief summary of the reserve, as well as an opportunity to meet a snake (Orin) that the reserve was treating. Lauren told us that each animal they treat/house here is native to New Jersey. Afterwards, we set off on a hike, exploring the various flora that the Pinelands have to offer, as well as some history of the area. Following the hike, we viewed many different animals that the reserve was treating and rehabilitating. We got to see different birds, a playful raccoon, and a deer that loved to follow us around in the enclosure. Aidan had a conversation with a crow!
Afterwards, we completed a service project clearing an area of brush so that younger kids who visit the Refuge can construct survival shelters. This not only gave us an opportunity to build, but also to explore the wildlife and woods a bit more. We all split off and got to see the creeks and clearings of the woods. When we returned, we finished our service project and cleaned up our area before heading back to the bus.
