This week we went to a lot of places where people were really in need and we helped them by donating food and clothes, serving them breakfast and lunch and simply giving them someone to talk to. The two places that impacted me the most were the Cathedral Food Pantry, which we went to one Monday and Tuesday and New Visions Homeless Shelter, which we went to on Thursday. The reason that these two places were the ones that impacted me the most was because it was the two places that allowed us to actually talk to and meet the homeless men and women. We also went to a place called Seeds of Hope that really taught us a lot about not only the organization but about homelessness in Camden as a whole. We learned that when you donate to the homeless the kinds of things that are most helpful are undergarments and toiletries. It was good to learn what is most helpful because after this Intensive Learning experience I am definitely going to start volunteering more in my community.
