On the first full day of service we ate breakfast with our families. Then, we went out to work on the playground at the local school. After a morning of hard work, we took a siesta and had a delicious lunch provided by our family. With the extra time we played games with our new brothers and sisters. We then went back out to work on the playground. When we were done working for the day we played games on the field with the kids until dinner. Finally, we ate dinner and then settled down for the night until it was time to sleep.
We had such a wonderful experience building common things such as goals and gardens out of odd objects like tree branches and car tires. Seeing this aspect of recycling things and putting them to such great use really put things in perspective for us. Usually we would overlook those objects, but now we can see what a big difference they could make in someone’s life. It was amazing to see that such small things could makes such a huge impact on people’s lives. Although, it was very hard work, it was worth every ounce of sweat to see the happiness that it brought to the children of Coope San Juan.
