We awoke at the ungodly hour of 6:30am, already having lost an hour to German daylight savings, and after our breakfast provided graciously by our Köln hotel well before the typical time, we promptly boarded the bus for a four-hour bus ride north to Bremen.
We got off at Bremen Universum, a math and science museum with interactive components related to technology, humans, and nature. We felt our way through a dark room, sat in an earthquake simulator, generated stream rings, and hand-cranked our way to lightbulb prominence.
We then saw a small-sized model of the city at an architectural museum, followed by a life-size model of the city on a tour. Our Easter dinner was traditional German sausages and mashed potatoes at a restaurant called Ratskeller (though much to his dismay, Mike received no special treatment). After stopping at the hotel and dropping our bags in our rooms behind our inordinately-difficult-to-open doors, we headed to the Bremen Easter carnival, where we rode rides and ate churros in an hour-long excursion of forgetting we were abroad. We headed back to the hotel afterward and got ready for a night’s sleep before tomorrow’s trip to Hamburg.
