Today we started our day bright and early with our bus ride to Leipzig. When we arrived we were given one hour of free time to explore and get lunch. One thing we noticed was the diverse architecture and different shapes used. All the buildings have vibrant colors and although they were old, they fit in well together. We then met our tour guide, Silvio, an energetic historian from Leipzig, at a statue of Bach. We toured the city known for the writer Goethe, for being a historic city for music, and for the 1989 protest leading to fall of Berlin Wall. We learned that the first coffee shop in Europe was in Leipzig too!
Next, we went to the German Military museum in Dresden where we learned a lot about the machinery and weapons used in WWII. We reflected in a brief Meeting for Worship after learning about the history of the war and realized there is still a lot of controversy surrounding the war. It was a great learning experience, and we all gained a lot of knowledge from it. As the day wound down we drove into the center of Dresden listening to music. We then ate some delicious pizza and chicken at Alex (German restaurant). Finally, we arrived at our hotel and had some down time to discuss our day and adventures for tomorrow.
