Today was our first opportunity to volunteer at the Give Kids The World Village. Our day started with a meeting at the volunteer services building, where we were given our assignments for the rest of the week. Around the village, there are many places where we could have been assigned, however for each morning that we are here we have been tasked with helping to serve breakfast. Some people helped carry trays while others served people food and cleaned up the tables and dishes. We all played a part in starting off the guests’ morning in a joyful way. This morning shift occurred from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
After our morning shift we came back to the hotel to hang out and chill by the pool to really soak up the Florida sun. We walked around the hotel and found a little beach where we all laid some towels down to reflect on the morning’s service.
Our second and final shift of the day started at 5:30 p.m. We re-checked ourselves in at volunteer services and were assigned unique tasks for everyone. Half the group participated in helping with the dinner service. The other half helped out at the Silly Science Spectacular party where attendees were able to play with various different science-related activities. What a great first day! We are looking forward to what the rest of the week will bring.
