Today, we started off at the Kimmel Center, located on the Avenue of the Arts. Designed by Rafael Vinoly, the Kimmel Center contains many spaces, including Verizon Hall, Perelman Theater, and the Dorrance H. Hamilton Roof Garden, all of which we visited. Verizon Hall and Perelman Theater are, in fact, two separate buildings; in the picture, Verizon Hall is located on the right. Verizon Hall is home to the Philadelphia Orchestra, and is made of wood from the coast of South Africa. It is shaped like a cello for the best acoustics and view from all seats. The 150 foot high glass roof that surrounds the center is made up of over 5,000 glass panels. -Chloe
We started off our day today at the Kimmel Center. The building has a pretty glass roof, and houses two separate theaters, the Verizon Hall, and the Perelman Theatre. The theaters are used for various types of concerts. We took a tour of each theatre, and we also travelled to the roof of the building to see the rooftop garden. We also saw some fascinating works of art throughout the building. -Brad
We went to the Kimmel Center, the Comcast Center, and the Barnes Foundation. At the Kimmel Center we toured the different halls where the orchestras, operas, dancers and others perform. We were taken up to the garden on top and we learned that each part of the building is taken from a different part of the world. At the Comcast center, we were taken to the 57th floor, and we walked around the catwalk on the top of the building. You could see the entire city. Then we ate lunch down in the lower level of the Comcast Center. At the Barnes Foundation, we got a behind-the-scenes tour of the building, learned about the architecture of the new building in contrast to the old Barnes foundation, and we toured the art exhibit. -Katie
