Today our first stop was at Coursera. We met Mrs. Barna’s son, Peter (MFS Alumni ’11) in front of their headquarters. We learned all about Coursera’s mission and how they plan to accomplish it. We experienced first hand a true startup tech company and its culture.
Our next stop was to Symantec. There we were treated with Debra McLaughlin, (MFS Alumni ’93.) This had a much different feel than the laid back Coursera. At Symantec we learned all about their company as one of the biggest software protection companies in the world. We were able to work with real servers and motherboards. This gave us hands-on experience with the mechanics behind electronics.
We were then dropped off at the Intel Museum where we learned about the history of microprocessors and how they are made. Additionally we got to take part in a class activity involving Legos and visit the gift shop on the way out.
Our last stop of the day was to downtown Mountain View where we ate dinner and grabbed some ice cream at the most top-rated ice cream place in Mountain View. Today was a very exciting and eventful day hopefully tomorrow will be even better!
