Today we started out our second day in Costa Rica. After breakfast, the first activity we participated in was horseback riding through the beautiful landscape of Guanacaste. Each member of our group got their very own horse. After three hours of trekking through the tropical woods, we reached the first waterfall and took some time to take pictures. After that, we saw two other waterfalls; the third being the biggest and most impressive. Then, we took a short hike to the hot springs, where we had a relaxing experience. At the springs, everyone played Marco Polo and the color game. Some people in the group continued playing games in the pool, while others ventured on to seek out the other activities offered at hot springs. There was a sauna that was many students visited. The hot springs also had giant pots of mud known for its skin caring properties. The down time we were able to spend at the springs was a great reward for the strenuous, exhilarating trip getting there.
On the way back, instead of riding our horses, we rode a big green tractor back to the lodges. We were given time to freshen up before we had the opportunity to milk cows. Our group learned about the milking schedule for the cows. They are milked at 6am and 2pm every day for six months.
After, we were given a tour of the Ecofarm where Buena Vista, the lodge we are staying at, grows 85 percent of the produce and makes all of the dairy products. Senior Lawrence Miles said, “Hand made dairy products!! Now that makes me a happy Larry!”
