Multicultural Philly Day Two: Chinese Culture

Today our Intensive Learning group combined with the Asian culture group. First in the morning we had a presentation from a woman who specialized in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. She gave a presentation and then demonstrated acupuncture and cupping, which are two types of practices in Chinese medicine. Many of us tried these methods of healing and enjoyed them. We also learned about Chinese culture before we got on the bus and went into Chinatown.

We first visited a temple and learned about the three Buddahs. We went to a Chinese herbalist store where we learned about the spices and herbs put in the Chinese medicines. Then we made our way to the traditional Chinese restaurant and had lunch. We then had a 15 minute adventure of exploring Chinatown and got rolled ice cream. We got back on the bus and went to a woman’s house who performed traditional Chinese music for us with traditional Chinese instruments. They gave us a chance to try playing the music. It was a great experience of Chinatown, and we learned a lot about the culture.
