Multicultural Philly: Italian Market Tour

Today we were able to explore various parts of Philadelphia. We started the day off by walking through the mosaic-covered walls of Philadelphia. Artist Isaiah Zagar created the walls. We also ran into his wife and their dog. Some of his artwork included random letters, quotes, and portraits of people. We proceeded to walk the streets of Philadelphia until we came to the Italian Market. The market began with a famous sausage shop, but unfortunately it was closed. The market streets were full of many cafes, butcher shops, cheese shops, grocery stores, gift shops, and more. Shops smelled heavily of coffee and food! We were even able to experience a barrel fire. They are illegal in many places throughout America. Also, we saw the “grease pole,” site of an annual Italian Market competition. Everything in the market was delicious! We walked through the Italian Market until we came to Pat’s King of Steaks. We also saw their lifelong competitor, Geno’s Steaks. We only ate at Pat’s and it was definitely a great decision!
