New Beginnings, Otherworld, and Snow White!

We all were so excited to get to know the preschoolers, and we can’t wait to continue working on our movie in the subsequent days!

Today marked our first day of IL! We kicked off the morning by gathering in the classroom to revisit our norms and prepare for the days ahead. Our first activity involved meeting the preschoolers, where we were split into two groups: one with Garret’s class and the other with Anastasia’s. We spent the first few minutes getting to know each other and building connections with the preschoolers.

Once we had introduced ourselves, we started brainstorming ideas for our stop-motion film. The preschoolers’ imaginations took us on wild adventures, from jungles filled with lions and kangaroos to volcanoes filled with robots and princesses. It was incredibly fun to hear the creative ideas they brought to the group.

Then came the work and play time! While some of us focused on setting up the film set, others enjoyed playing with dolls, blocks, and reading books. Garret’s group worked on creating our jungle film set, while Anastasia’s group built a stage with Legos. After spending two hours with the preschoolers, it was time to move on to our next activity.

Our next stop was our trip to Otherworld Philadelphia — an immersive art exhibit ! After a relatively long bus ride (where some people were conked out), we arrived. After freezing due to the winds, the front desk people explained the rules to us, and then we all set off on our own adventures through out the experience. There was also an ongoing puzzle where people could find and solve puzzles throughout the room; however, unfortunately none of us managed to finish all of them. Some of the cool rooms we saw had:

  • Floating and hanging cushions
  • Levers to pull a cow’s udders and make music
  • Computers with tidbits of lore for the environment
  • Infinite mirrors
  • Create-your-own-avatar simulator
  • Rope climbing sphere
  • And many more!

Finally, to end off the day we went to go see the live-action Snow White movie in the theatre!
