On our first day of travel, we left MFS at 3 p.m. after saying goodbye to all our parents. Caroline’s mom was kind enough to bring everyone goodie bags with snacks for the plane, which were definitely very helpful during the long waiting times on both the plane and airport. After reaching the Newark Airport at 4:15, we fought tough battles through baggage check-ins and airport security. We emerged victorious, having leisure time and grabbing a quick meal before our long 6 hour flight. It was finally time, and we boarded our first flight to Frankfurt at 7:15 p.m. After boarding the plane, we found ourselves waiting for nearly an hour before takeoff.
Due to strong winds in the Gulf Stream, the plane reached Frankfurt in six-and-a-half hours. Everyone agreed that the plane was absolutely packed, with very little leg room. Everyone spent their first few hours on the plane in different ways, like eating snacks, watching movies, eating the provided dinner, internally screaming over the sound of crying babies, or just sleeping during the flight.
We landed in a time zone five hours ahead of us; we had to move quickly through customs, as our flight from Frankfurt to Oslo was scheduled for two hours after we landed. This flight was shorter, only an hour and 45 minutes, and was on a much smaller and less crowded plane. In order to board the plane, we had to take a bus from the gate all the way across the airport. A bumpy ride for sure!
After landing in Oslo, we collected our check-in luggage and settled in for a long layover. We landed at 12 p.m. and our next flight was scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Most people took the time to explore the airport and get food, while a few others caught up on sleep. Although it was very busy process, we could all agree that it would all be worth it in the end.
