Today we started off our service-packed day with a 50-minute, music-filled ride to Christian Service Center. Their 2-acre campus holds much more than their original Soup Kitchen, which is named Daily Bread. They hold a thrift store, food pantry, fully accessible showers and toilets, a full laundry service, and an entire team of case workers and volunteers all there to help those in need. From 10 am to 1 pm, we worked as a team to aid those who needed it. While some of us cooked and served food, others sorted mail and cleaned the showers. Being able to see the faces of those in need light up when they are told “It’s your turn to shower” was an experience none of us could ever forget.
Then we went to Give Kids the World. We were then divided into groups and given our assignments. One group assisted a Halloween celebration. There, we made crafts with the kids, played games, celebrated their wonderful costumes, and took them Trick or Treating. Another group delivered food with a golf cart. Additionally, some groups helped prepare and serve food to the families. It was amazing to see the smiles of all ages when the food was served and/or delivered to them. Everyone here had nothing but happiness and smiles everywhere they went. We then finished up the night and headed back to our condos at the illustrious Star Island establishment.
