Our adventure begins in Costa Rica!

Today we woke up bright and early at 6:30 am sharp to attend the continental breakfast, which began at 7:00. This breakfast included two types of cereal, Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes accompanied by some milk. We also were delighted to see some fresh white and wheat bread which we could toast or not. Along with the toast we had a multitude of assorted jams, jellies, and butters to apply to our toast. These three options were laid out buffet style; we could also order any type of eggs we wanted from the waitress walking around the dining room tending to our needs. The services were stellar!!

Our day took off right after breakfast! We handed our bags to our tour guide Pedro and off we went. After our bags had been loaded onto the bus we took an hour-long bus ride to a national park. Within this national park is one of 1500 active volcanoes worldwide. We were super thrilled to look at all the awesome rock formations and animals throughout the park. Our hike started with a beautiful entrance to the canopy where we would spend the next exhilarating 3 hours exploring. We saw sulfur pools and bubbling mud along with different types of animals, including iguanas, parrots, and a magpie. We were especially excited to walk through the close-knit trees, but of course we were careful to look out for any spiky trees or bushes!!

Next we took a quick hour bus ride to our final hotel destination, the beautiful Buena Vista Eco Lodge and Resort! We were so excited to see the beautiful gates opening. We entered, checked in and settled down. We had some down time before it was time to go ZIPLINING!!!

Ziplining was a hoot!!! We took 9 different zip lines throughout and over the canopy one after another. It was such a great experience to be able to watch our fellow peers and our chaperones flying high above the canopy soaring into new adventures as a group. Junior Cameron Stirner said, “I never felt more alive than when I was on the lines.”

We finished off the day with a nice candle lit dinner in the Buena Vista Lodge Restaurant. Senior Lawrence Miles said, “Two different types of pasta!! Now that makes me a happy Larry!”

This was only our first day, so as you can imagine we are super excited to see what Costa Rica holds for us in the coming days!!
