We started our second day in Florence with a tour of the Bargello Museum, which houses many beautiful sculptures by artists, including Donatello and Michelangelo. We then split up into small groups for lunch where some of us ate at a cafe overlooking Florence and had a great view of the Duomo. After lunch we went to the Brancacci Chapel in the Santa Maria del Carmine church and viewed the frescoes of St. Peter done by Masaccio that kickstarted the Renaissance. Finally we went to the Church of Santa Croce and saw the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, and Galileo.
We went to a wonderful restaurant called Osteria Zio Gigi where we had a singing waiter. (Look for a link on tomorrow’s blog.) On the way home, we stopped at Mr. Goldberg’s favorite gelateria called “Perche Non?” (Why not?)
