Today we hiked around the Franklin Parker Preserve in Chatsworth in the Pine Barrens. We walked along a mix of the Green and Red trails for a total of about 5 ½ miles. Along the hike, we saw some beautiful small bodies of water. We saw some giant Adirondack chairs, and we visited the lookout tower where some people were able to eat lunch while enjoying the scenery. We saw a horse named Mr. Jackson, who showed us his cool trick of bowing before going on a ride with his owner.
The Franklin Parker preserve was once the third largest cranberry farm in the U.S. It was purchased by the New Jersey Conservation in 2003 after the previous owner couldn’t raise money to keep it. The preserve is now 11,379 acres located in the New Jersey Pine Barrens where you can hike, fish, and horseback ride. The Franklin Parker Reserve is a great place to visit with lots of fun activities!
