Our day started by watching a short film on the myth of the Jersey Devil. While a little cheesy, the clip did explain the history of this myth and then we set out for the hike – Apple Pie Hill in Tabernacle. When we arrived at the trail, we first checked out the Carranza Memorial. This memorial was meant to honor the memory of Emilio Carranza, a pilot who passed away in 1928 after crashing in the Pines. It was really interesting to learn about this bit of history! Then we began to film our own short films about the Jersey Devil. We spent about half an hour filming, and are looking forward to editing and watching our mock-umentaries later this week. After this, we began our hike to Apple Pie Hill. Despite starting out with a pretty heavy rain for about 20 minutes, the rest of the 3.5-mile hike was rain-free. We got to the end of the trail ready for a lunch break.
When we reached the top of Apple Pie Hill, there was a large fire tower. This is used to locate forest fires before they spread. Buildings all the way in Atlantic City, and beautiful tree tops were visible at the top of this hill. We then took a break to eat, and began our journey to find the bus. All around, it was a great day with scenic views in the heart of nature.
