Sacred Spaces: Baha’i Encounter and Bharatiya Temple

Today we were warmly welcomed into the home of a follower of the Baha’i faith. She was from Iran and was very courteous and offered us breakfast. After we were settled we were introduced thoroughly to the Baha’i faith with a PowerPoint that she built.

We learned about basic principles and religion in the religion such as Unity and Baha’ullah. It was about a 30 minute presentation followed with 15 minutes of Q&A after the presentation. We then concluded with a final snack and left for the Hindu Temple.

At the Bharatiya Temple we watched a few minutes of a Hindu prayer and worship. It was very spiritual and interesting. They worship many gods and pick one god that resonates with them the most. What we learned in the question and answer session was that Hinduism is a very unique religion. Brahman is the God they worship. Brahman is the truth and reality.

The Vedas are Hindu scriptures that contain revelations. Understanding the concept of dharma helps you understand the Hindu faith. Dharma is basically the laws and duty of the Hindu religion.

We learned a lot today and are excited to go the Philadelphia Art Museum and learn about Islamic art tomorrow.
