Sacred Spaces: Philadelphia Sikh Society and Christ Church

We started the day off bright and early with a bus ride to Upper Darby. We ventured to the Philadelphia Sikh Society and learned about their culture in the Gurdwara Sahib. As a group, we were welcomed with open arms by our friendly Sikh guides. We enjoyed wonderful Indian snacks and after that, we talked more about how it’s good to accept different cultures within the multicultural society that we live in.

After this experience, we went to the Christ Church. At this church we visited the burial ground where many of our historical figures were buried. For example, Benjamin Franklin was buried there. We went inside the church and learned about the Anglo-Saxon church and its history. Our tour guide taught us about how this church was the tallest building of the thirteen colonies. We talked to a current priest who gave her stories about the church and what it’s like to be a priest at this church.

A good day like this must have a sweet ending. We went to the Franklin Fountain and had some delicious ice cream. We all enjoyed the ice cream before heading home.
