Today, we went to Historic Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest.
We started off the day with a four mile hike on a looping trail around a river. We saw the Batsto lake and examples of controlled fires and learned what they do. After we chowed down on some lunch, we went inside the visitor center and explored their museum, which provided a good ecological and historical overview of the Pine Barrens. We learned about the past owners of Batsto Village, tools they used, and what they made. Then we had a private tour of the mansion of Wharton and Hox, previous owners of the Batsto Village. Finally we ended the day with a good old fashioned snowball fights on the Batsto grounds.
Our hands were frozen, but our hearts were warm!
