Solar Energy, Day Three — Constructing solar ovens (and Oreo update)

Today we spent four hours constructing our solar ovens with cardboard, styrofoam insulation, and aluminum foil. Unfortunately there wasn’t much sun today, so we couldn’t test them. We cut pieces of plexiglass using a score knife and broke them to the proper size to put on top of our solar ovens to prevent heat loss.

After lunch, we learned about Arduino microcontrollers and began programming and wiring them. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish because we were interrupted by the Low and Slow IL, who “kindly and generously” offered us some of their ribs. We, of course, took the offer and spent fifteen minutes stuffing our faces.

OREO UPDATE!!!!

Today we tried two new Oreo flavors! First was a tiramisu-flavored Oreo Thins. One student did NOT like the taste of coffee in the Oreo, so they gave it a 3/10. Another student liked the taste, along with a student outside of our IL, so they collectively gave it a 10/10. The last student couldn’t eat it so they didn’t weigh in.

The chocolate Oreo was our second new flavor. We all gave it a 10/10! One student combined the chocolate Oreo with yesterday’s mint Oreo and loved it. New flavor?
