As we wrap up a great week for our Pine Barrens trip, we are reminded of the many wonderful experiences we had. We are grateful to all of our hosts: John Volpa at the Black Run Preserve, Stefanie and Bill Haines at Pine Island Cranberry Co., and Erin Kiefer at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Each was incredibly helpful and informative; without them, we would have lacked the necessary context needed to understand the delicate and complex ecosystem that comprises the Pines.
Moving forward, we hope that the students will make use of this local resource. With the understanding that preservation, in addition to protection, are paramount to the Pines, we want to encourage students to learn more about both. In order to ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy this special 1 million acres of land, we stress further education.
We all had such a great experience, and we hope you enjoyed reading about our experiences. If you want to learn more, please feel free to contact us!
Best,
Scott Hammer and Michael Aviles
