Thriving Now and Beyond, Day Three: TCNJ and Rutgers New Brunswick

Hello, and welcome to day three of Thriving Now and Beyond! Today was probably the busiest day yet, so there’s a lot to cover. Without further ado, let’s begin!

  1. The College of New Jersey

We began our day by “touring” The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), however, we only did a self-guided tour in addition to an info session, which only took around 30 minutes. It was a shame that none of us could get a real feel for the college.

Not all is bad, however, and we noticed some positive aspects of the campus. It was spacious while also relatively small. This was also the first time we were able to look at a college library, and TCNJ’s library was just as spacious as the rest of the college.

Anyway, TCNJ was probably a great school, but we couldn’t exactly tell much from it.

2. Rutgers University-New Brunswick

Following our brief stint at TCNJ, we moved onto the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University, a vastly different experience and vibe from our previous tour. Before our scheduled bus tour, we had a half-an-hour info session covering everything from admissions to campus life, and some trivia that none of us got right.

But on the bright side, our bus tour was an incredible sight-seeing experience, allowing us to view all five mini-campuses of the larger New Brunswick insitution without walking; although, we occastionally left the bus to enter some of their centers, and we got a quick dorm tour.

The contrast between TCNJ’s and Rutgers New Brunsick’s campuses allowed us to get a greater feel of how we prefer different environments from a collegiate prespective. Some of us preferred the smaller campus of TCNJ while others liked the much larger New Brunswick experience. Our previous tours also helped inform today’s opinions with the more urban environments of yesterday feeling almost disconnected from the suburban campuses of today’s visits. Overall, this was a pretty compact and exciting day, and we’re all looking forward to tommorow’s visit.
