Students are working in groups today to create final presentations.
Summary of our IL:
The Bayshore project was an overall success for the A.J. Mirwald and restoring the building. We started the week by taking a tour of the site, learning what we would later be doing on the ship. The boat didn’t arrive until Tuesday though, we had to find other projects to do until then. After the tour, during the the afternoon, we painted the doors and windows. The next Monday, much of the time was spent sanding and painting the roof of the building. Although we did not finish the roof, we could see the difference between the old roof and the new roof. We also folded three hundred activity packets for the arriving fourth graders the next day.
The boat came Tuesday morning and was ready for restoration. We spent the day cleaning out the inside and outside of the boat so the crew could move in. One of our tasks was to move ropes to the dock. Then, we cleaned out the the cabin with vacuum, then we scrubbed the floor. It snowed Wednesday but we still went. The deck of the boat was covered with snow so we started by shoveling the snow. Most of the day was spent under the deck or inside because it was freezing. The last day, the coast guard came to inspect the boat so we weren’t able to work on it. The day was similar to the previous days but toward the end we all worked together to move a large piece of a sunken ship. This intensive learning trip was great because it challenged us to go out of our comfort zone and learn something new.
