We arrived after a relatively short bus ride to a windy and overcast Philadelphia sky. We were excited for our third trip in this Outdoor Exhibits experience. We took a quick group photo and then separated into small groups. The entire day was independent open exploration — no guided tours. This allowed each group to choose their own adventure. Some groups chose to look at the reptiles, others were excited to see the hippos, and some went straight for the (rather adorable!) little goats. There were a wide variety of animals out and about despite the chilly weather — practically everything under the sun except, sadly, birds. According to several helpful signs posted around the zoo, all birds are being kept indoors to avoid a new strain of avian flu that is, apparently, spreading across the Eastern Seaboard. After a fun lunch outdoors (keeping within the theme of our week!), some groups chose to double back and take a last look at their favorite exhibit while others headed for the gift shop. Overall, despite the chilly start, we definitely had a lot of fun and look forward to returning soon!
